1. 1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it came to pass in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,

   1 하가랴의 아들 느헤미야의 말들이라. 제이십년 기슬르 월에 내가 수산 궁에 있을 때

2. 2 that Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men out of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, that were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.

   2 내 형제들 중 하나인 하나니가 유다에서 온 어떤 사람들과 함께 왔기에 내가 그들에게 전에 도피한 유대인들 곧 포로 생활을 하다가 돌아가서 남게 된 자들과 예루살렘에 관하여 물으니

3. 3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

   3 그들이 내게 이르되, 포로 생활을 하다가 돌아가서 거기 그 지방에 남게 된 남은 자들이 큰 고통과 치욕을 당하고 있으며 예루살렘 성벽도 무너지고 그곳의 성문들은 불탔나이다, 하니라.

4. 4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,

   4 ¶ 내가 이 말들을 듣고는 앉아서 울고 며칠 동안 애곡하며 하늘의 하나님 앞에서 금식하고 기도하여

5. 5 and said, I beseech thee, O Jehovah, the God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and lovingkindness with them that love him and keep his commandments:

   5 이르되, 간청하건대 오 주 하늘의 하나님 곧 자신을 사랑하고 자신의 명령들을 지키는 자들을 위해 언약을 지키시며 긍휼을 베푸시는 크고 두려우신 하나님이여,

6. 6 Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants while I confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee. Yea, I and my fathers house have sinned:

   6 이제 주께서는 귀를 기울이시고 눈을 여사 주의 종의 기도를 들으시옵소서. 내가 이제 주의 종 이스라엘 자손을 위해 주 앞에서 밤낮으로 기도하며 이스라엘 자손의 죄들을 자백하오니 우리가 주께 그 죄들을 지었나이다. 나와 내 아버지 집이 죄를 지었나이다.

7. 7 we have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.

   7 우리가 주를 매우 악하게 대하였으며 주께서 주의 종 모세에게 명령하신 명령들과 법규들과 판단의 규범들을 지키지 아니하였나이다.

8. 8 Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye trespass, I will scatter you abroad among the peoples:

   8 간청하건대 주께서 주의 종 모세에게 명령하신 말씀을 기억하시옵소서. 이르시기를, 만일 너희가 범법하면 내가 너희를 민족들 가운데로 널리 흩으리라.

9. 9 but if ye return unto me, and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts were in the uttermost part of the heavens, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen, to cause my name to dwell there.

   9 그러나 만일 너희가 내게로 돌아서서 내 명령들을 지키고 그것들을 행하면 너희 중에서 하늘 맨 끝 지역까지 쫓겨난 자들이 있을지라도 내가 그곳에서부터 그들을 모아 내가 내 이름을 거기에 두려고 택한 곳으로 데려오리라, 하셨나이다.

10. 10 Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.

    10 실로 이들은 주께서 주의 큰 권능과 강한 손으로 구속하신 주의 종들이요, 주의 백성이니이다.

11. 11 O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who delight to fear thy name; and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. Now I was cupbearer to the king.

    11 오 주여, 간청하건대 이제 주의 종의 기도와 주의 이름을 두려워하기 원하는 주의 종들의 기도에 귀를 기울이시고 원하건대 이날 주의 종의 일들을 형통하게 하사 이 사람의 눈앞에서 주의 종에게 긍휼을 베푸시옵소서, 하였나니 이는 내가 왕의 잔을 드는 자였기 때문이니라.
