1. 1 그때에 유다의 온 백성이 웃시야를 취하여 그의 아버지 아마샤 대신 왕으로 삼았는데 그는 나이가 십육 세더라.

   1 Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who [was] sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

2. 2 그 왕이 자기 조상들과 함께 잠든 뒤에 그가 엘롯을 건축하고 유다에 그것을 복귀시켰더라.

   2 He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

3. 3 웃시야가 통치하기 시작할 때에 나이가 십육 세더라. 그가 예루살렘에서 오십이 년 동안 통치하니라. 그의 어머니의 이름은 또한 예루살렘의 여골리아더라.

   3 Sixteen years old [was] Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also [was] Jecoliah of Jerusalem.

4. 4 그가 자기 아버지 아마샤가 행한 모든 것에 따라 {주}의 눈앞에서 올바른 것을 행하며

   4 And he did [that which was] right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did.

5. 5 [하나님]의 환상들에 관하여 이해하는 스가랴가 사는 날 동안에 [하나님]을 구하였고 그가 {주}를 구할 동안에는 [하나님]께서 그를 형통하게 하셨더라.

   5 And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.

6. 6 그가 나아가서 블레셋 사람들과 싸우며 가드의 성벽과 야브네의 성벽과 아스돗의 성벽을 헐고 아스돗 주변과 블레셋 사람들 가운데 도시들을 건축하매

   6 And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.

7. 7 [하나님]께서 그를 도우사 블레셋 사람들과 구르바알에 거한 아라비아 사람들과 므후님 사람들을 치게 하시므로

   7 And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gurbaal, and the Mehunims.

8. 8 암몬 족속이 웃시야에게 예물을 바치니라. 그가 자기 세력을 심히 강화하였으므로 그의 이름이 이집트 입구에까지 널리 퍼졌더라.

   8 And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad [even] to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened [himself] exceedingly.

9. 9 또 웃시야가 예루살렘에서 모퉁이 문과 골짜기 문과 성벽이 구부러지는 곳에 망대들을 세워 그것들을 견고하게 하며

   9 Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning [of the wall], and fortified them.

10. 10 또 사막에 망대들을 세우고 많은 우물을 팠으니 이는 그가 저지대 지방과 평야에 가축을 많이 소유하였기 때문이라. 또 그가 산들과 갈멜에 농부들과 포도원지기들을 두었더라. 그는 농사를 좋아하였더라.

    10 Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen [also], and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry.

11. 11 또 웃시야에게 싸우는 사람들의 군대가 있었는데 이들은 곧 서기관 여이엘과 치리자 마아세야의 손으로 보고한 수효대로, 왕의 대장들 중의 하나인 하나냐의 손 밑에서 떼를 지어 싸우러 나간 자들이라.

    11 Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, [one] of the king's captains.

12. 12 강한 용사들의 아버지들의 우두머리들의 전체 수는 이천육백 명이요,

    12 The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour [were] two thousand and six hundred.

13. 13 그들의 손 밑의 군대는 삼십만 칠천오백 명이더라. 이들이 강력한 힘으로 싸우며 왕을 도와 원수를 쳤더라.

    13 And under their hand [was] an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.

14. 14 웃시야가 그 온 군대에서 두루 그들을 위해 방패와 창과 투구와 갑옷과 활과 돌을 던지는 무릿매들을 예비하였고

    14 And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings [to cast] stones.

15. 15 또 예루살렘에서 솜씨 있는 사람들이 고안한 기계들을 만들어 망대와 보루 위에 두고 그것들로 화살과 큰 돌을 쏘게 하였더라. 그의 이름이 멀리 널리 퍼졌으니 이는 그가 놀랍게 도움을 받아 마침내 강하게 되었기 때문이더라.

    15 And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.

16. 16 ¶ 그러나 그가 강하게 되매 그의 마음이 높아져서 그가 파멸에 이르렀으니 이는 그가 {주} 자기 [하나님]께 범법하고 {주}의 성전에 들어가 분향 제단에 분향하려 하였기 때문이더라.

    16 But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to [his] destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

17. 17 제사장 아사랴가 {주}의 제사장들 곧 용맹한 자들 팔십 명을 데리고 그의 뒤를 따라 들어가서

    17 And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, [that were] valiant men:

18. 18 그들이 웃시야 왕을 막으며 그에게 이르되, 웃시야여, {주}께 분향하는 일은 왕에게 속하지 아니하고 오직 분향하기 위하여 거룩히 구분된, 아론의 아들들인 제사장들에게 속하였으니 성소에서 나가소서. 왕이 범법하였은즉 {주} [하나님]으로부터 그 일로 인해 영예를 얻지 못하리이다, 하니라.

    18 And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, [It appertaineth] not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither [shall it be] for thine honour from the LORD God.

19. 19 그때에 웃시야가 화를 내며 분향하려고 손에 향로를 들었는데 그가 제사장들에게 화를 낼 때에 {주}의 집에서 분향 제단 옆에서 제사장들 앞에서 그의 이마에 나병이 솟으니라.

    19 Then Uzziah was wroth, and [had] a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.

20. 20 수제사장 아사랴와 모든 제사장이 그를 보니, 보라, 그의 이마에 나병이 있으므로 그들이 그를 거기서 쫓아내었고 {주}께서 그를 치셨으므로 참으로 그도 속히 나가니라.

    20 And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he [was] leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.

21. 21 웃시야 왕이 죽는 날까지 나병 환자로 지냈고 나병 환자이므로 외딴 집에 거하였더라. 그가 {주}의 집으로부터 차단되었으므로 그의 아들 요담이 왕의 집을 다스리며 그 땅의 백성을 재판하였더라.

    21 And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, [being] a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son [was] over the king's house, judging the people of the land.

22. 22 ¶ 이제 웃시야의 나머지 행적은 처음부터 끝까지 아모스의 아들 대언자 이사야가 기록하였더라.

    22 Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.

23. 23 이처럼 웃시야가 자기 조상들과 함께 잠들매 그들이 왕들에게 속한 매장지 밭에 그의 조상들과 함께 그를 묻었으니 이는 그들이 말하기를, 그는 나병 환자라, 하였기 때문이더라. 그의 아들 요담이 그를 대신하여 통치하니라.

    23 So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which [belonged] to the kings; for they said, He [is] a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.
